All Or Nothing: The Authorised Story of Steve Marriott by Simon Spence to be released on 18 March 2021

Authorised by the Marriott family

Steve Marriott, lead singer of the Small Faces and Humble Pie, had a voice coveted by Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey and David Bowie, amongst many others.

All or Nothing, Simon Spence's oral history biography, is drawn from over 125 interviews with those who knew Marriott intimately: his wives, children, bandmates and closest friends, managers, record producers, record label bosses and his fellow musicians. Included are scores of people who have never told their story before.

From his child star beginnings to his battles with drug addiction and untimely death in a housefire, All or Nothing is a visceral and unflinching account of Steve Marriott's extraordinary and often troubling life.

Foxton & Hastings - The Butterfly Effect

Hi everyone

Bruce and myself are delighted to announce we are working with the wonderful Townsend Music on our brand-new Making Music project and are proud to reveal our new album The Butterfly Effect, set for release in September 2021. As many of you know, we are usually on the road touring so studio opportunities don’t come up that often for us... nothing better than a good old pandemic to get us into the studio to lay down these great new songs!

As well as having a fantastic reputation within the music business as a direct-to-fan company, Townsend's Making Music means the artist and customer both achieve exactly what they set out to do: to make and listen to music.  Take look at the store and see for yourself the great ways you can support this project; as well as signed albums and experiences with Bruce and me, there's even a cool The Butterfly Effect plectrum set free with the bundles.

We have been working at home and in the studio for the past few months creating some new gems: 'Rain', 'Wanted', 'She Said' and 'Loola' are tracks to look out for! Making Music allows you to be such a big part of the ongoing experience of us making this album via our Making Music Updates. Our first Update is already live, discussing the name of the album and introducing the tremendous artwork. We'll see you there!

Out Of Time book by Paul Davis

Jools and her friends are Mods, fanatical about Sixties culture, fashion and music. All they want to do is look sharp, have a good time and dance all night. A bizarre turn of events sets them on a course where they end up on the hit list of a notorious Dublin gangster, who's determined to destroy them all. The decisions she makes could put the ones she loves the most at risk and she may have to choose who lives. Could you? Drugs. Gangsters. Music. Murder. Mods. He's out to kill. She's out of time.

'Gangsters, Geezers and Mods' by Stephen Pennell available on Kindle from Amazon

Steve, Rebecca and Baggy are the products of tough upbringings in the working class inner-city district of Aston, Birmingham, in the late twentieth century. All three set out on a life of crime as teenagers, and although they are often accomplices, there is a rivalry between Steve and Baggy that stems from a minor incident in their youth. Many comical and chaotic adventures follow as they hustle their way through life, participating in the fierce conflict between Aston Villa and Birmingham City fans and interacting with the culture around them, but things become more sinister when a legendary local underworld figure enters their lives and changes things forever. When Steve’s relationship with Rebecca ends abruptly, he meets Kerri during a successful con-trick and a whirlwind romance ensues which leads to the moment that every young man dreads - the meeting with his girlfriend’s father. Meanwhile, Baggy embarks on a relationship that adds even more tension to the rivalry between the two men. Steve goes on to great success with the help of partner-in-crime Hands of Stone, before a chain of increasingly sinister events leads to the return of a figure from the past and a violent, tense finale. Who will come out on top?

THE TOUCH - King & Country EP (PICTURE DISC) 7" to be released on 12th February by Detour Records

DETOUR RECORDS BRINGS YOU THE NEXT

RELEASE IN THEIR VERY COLLECTABLE

PICTURE DISC SERIES

This Release Will Hit The Streets On

FRIDAY 12th FEBRUARY 2021

<<< Pre Orders Being Taken NOW! >>>

Well here it is, the EIGHTH in the series of these very collectable '79 Classic Mod releases.

The Touch began as a West London based mod revival band, active from June 1979 to February 1981, inspired by the Punk, R n B and Power Pop of the period which they were exposed to via the vibrant West London gig circuit: the Nashville, Red Cow, Greyhound and Kensington in particular.

The Touch hooked up with Valdene Records and recorded one album that for reasons unknown, was mysteriously released with the title “The Mods Lost Touch” without track titles or any other information about the band. This led to much confusion when copies of the album turned up among enthusiasts in later years, confusion that was finally sorted when Dizzy Holmes at Detour Records and Alan May of Glory Boys radio show tracked down band members in early 2018, some 37 years after the album first appeared.

“King and Country” the A side of this EP was and remains to this day one of the highlights of The Touch’s live set, an electrifying and heartfelt lament to the lost of the Great War. The B-side features their anthem to teenage frustration “In My Room”, together with a cover of Bob Dylan's “If You Gotta Go”, which remarkably features additional keyboards by Al Kooper who appeared as session man on Bob Dylan's original version from 1965! (The two tracks on the B-side were decided by the listeners on the GREAT Alan May "Glory Boy Mod Radio Show")

The original band members are Dave Vox (vocals), Nash aka Son Jack Junior (gtr/vocals), Charlie Gurney (drums) and Gerry Czerniawski (bass/ backing vocals). Gary Drewitt briefly replaced Gurney playing drums on the first album including these three tracks and at a few gigs.

In the short time that the band was initially active, they were represented by Pinball Artists. Among those they shared bills with during that great time in UK music were: The Count Bishops, Teenbeats, Long Tall Shorty, The Pleasers, Splodgenessabounds, The Mods, The Cimarons, The Satellites, The Modettes, among others.

Son Jack Jr. moved back to the UK in 2020 after living almost 25 years in the USA. During that time he established himself as a respected blues musician and released 4 critically acclaimed albums. Dave is based in Devon, and is active in the mod scene, together with his new musical venture “Blue Sky”. Charlie is still in London and plays for Deptford punk stalwarts The Phobics, and garage/RnB merchants, The Beatpack. Gerry is also still in town and has played bass for The Fixations and post-Fixations glam rockers Waving Not Drowning, and Bad Karma Beckons.

Following the band's rediscovery in 2018, the original line-up was reconvened to gig and promote the re-release of their original long-lost album released on the Paisley Archive subsidiary of Detour Records. Most recently, the band recorded a great new album of self-penned vintage and new material with Pat Collier producing, titled “Lost and Found” released on Touching Flames Records in 2019.

BACK TO ZERO - London's Pride EP (PICTURE DISC) 7" on Detour Records

Well here it is, the fifth in the series of these very collectable '79 Classic Mod releases.

This time we bring you FOUR unreleased tracks from one of the earliest Mod bands from North London. They were part of the "March Of The Mods" tour in 1979 along with Secret Affair, Squire & The Purple Hearts. The band quickly recorded and released their debut single 'Your Side Of Heaven' with Fiction Records.

In 1980 the band went through several line up changes, one notable change being the departure of vocalist Brian Betteridge. Drummer Andy Moore had left shortly after the MOTM tour concluded. The vocal duties were taken up by Craig Lappin who rose to the challenge and the vacant drum stool was filled by Nick Sinclair.

The band rehearsed extensively and were soon back on the road. They recorded demos of four new songs which resulted in an offer from Satril Records and it was rumoured that Chrysalis were also interested. Having hung on for a decision and, passing on the Satril deal, Chrysalis didn’t take the band onto their roster. The band soldiered on for several months but eventually called it a day.

Fast forward 40 years and a dusty old demo tape was found and Detour ventured into the studio to try and enhance the 40 year old cassette with some modern technology. The sound was improved to the best quality possible, and even though they weren't perfect we still wanted to release these tracks as it is part of the bands history.......

So here you are..... You can now hear the four tracks as they were recorded back in 1980!

Once again, ONLY 300 copies are pressed so be quick it you want a copy!

Ready, Steady, Go! The Weekend Starts Here: The Definitive Story of the Show That Changed Pop TV

Ready, Steady, Go! mirrored the cultural upheaval and spirit of youthful optimism that gripped Britain in the mid Sixties. Within weeks of its debut in August 1963 the show became an essential television ritual for the newly confident British teenager setting trends and becoming a barometer for pop culture. This bold new approach was perfectly embodied in RSG!s 'stylist' presenter, Cathy McGowan, whose natural demeanor directly connected with the show's target audience.

Ready, Steady, Go! ran for three and a half years, its demise in 1966 coinciding with the loss of pop's innocence. Within that time RSG! set a blueprint for music presentation and production on British television that resonated over the following decades.

Ready, Steady, Go! was the only pop show on TV where anything went as far as performance, fashion and attitude were concerned. The programme attracted and presented the era's most important musical names - The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Otis Redding, etc. - as well as providing then unknowns like Donovan, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix with their first, invaluable small screen exposure.

Ready, Steady, Go! has never been documented at length before until now. Through exclusive first-hand accounts, exhaustive research, and unseen photographs and rare memorabilia, Ready, Steady, Go! is fully examined from quintessential Swinging London accessory to its iconic status as the most influential popular music programme in British television history.

Buzzcocks to re-release their classic singles as a 7in boxset

The Buzzcocks complete run of seven-inch singles released on UA by the classic Shelly-Diggle-Garvey-Maher line-up is being re-released in a boxset.

Starting with Orgasm Addict and ending with Running Free, all the singles have been remastered from the original tapes and come in the original Malcolm Garrett-designed sleeves. The box also contains a 36-page booklet.

The snag lies in the price – a hefty £150. Understandably, many fans have voiced concern, though the band have pointed out that the set is not cheap to produce in relatively small numbers.

Those who still have lovingly-cared-for original singles will probably baulk at shelling out, but you can bet this finds its way onto the Christmas lists of quite a few dads and grandads of a certain age…

Buzzcocks: Complete UA Singles 1977-80 7in boxset is released on 15 January 2021 and can be pre-ordered from Domino Records.

Tracklisting:
