A SCOOTER
ride by a fleet of mods looks set to raise cash for young people with cancer
next month.
The
Scooter Ride Out, organised by March of The Mods which raises money for the
Teenage Cancer Trust, is taking place on Saturday, March 7.
A convoy
of mods will meet at the car park of the Historic Quay, off Marina Way, in
Hartlepool.
The retro
vehicles will set off from the Quay car park at about 11.30am and will ride
over Newburn Bridge to The Staincliffe Hotel, on The Front, at Seaton Carew, to
meet other fundraisers and those who do not have scooters.
There will
be DJs and tickets on sale for the forthcoming March Of The Mods main event which
will also take place at The Staincliffe on Friday, March 27.
Kev
McGuire, who is part of the organising team along with Micky Mojo Hudson,
Sharon Hudson, Ste Pounder and Paul and Karen Altringham, said: “If people
don’t have scooters they can welcome the riders in at The Staincliffe on March
7.
“It it is
open to absolutely anyone, as is the main event on March 27.
“Our
philosophy is that elitism only leads to extinction!”
Tickets
for the main event are £10 each and there are a range of prizes from a
Lambretta GP200, to a rare collectors item of a 3ft x 2ft hand-painted canvas
of The Jam signed by Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton, and Rick Buckler.
Kev added:
“Paul invited my band to his house last year after we played a gig in Woking
where he signed the canvas.
“His mum,
Anne, has kindly donated some rare photos of Paul for the raffle as well.
“We also
have a WHO @ 50 Tour Programme signed by Roger Daltrey as well aa
a signed framed Stereophonics photo
and a signed framed photo of Suggs from Madness and many more prizes.
“There are
11 bands and eight DJs all giving their time and talent for free and we would
like to thank them all sincerely, as well as the awesome people and local small
businesses who have bought tickets and donated prizes and cash.
“We want
to thank Tracey Halcrow who has sold a multitude of tickets for the event and
also Jo Johnson who kindly sold the tickets from her fantastic That Little
Vintage Shop, in Park Road.”
Guest Of
Honour at the event is Gary Shail, who played Spider in the cult Mod movie
Quadrophenia.
And as
well as doing a DJ set, Gary has kindly offered to sign any memorabilia people
have of the film such as posters, albums, videos, and DVDs.
Last year
the event raised £13,000 with 700 people attending, and nationally March Of The
Mods raised £100,000.
March of
The Mods was a concept originally set up two years ago by Eddie Penny from
Liverpool, and throughout March bands and DJs perform across the UK to raise
funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
