"If you have a passion for obscure R&B and Soul 45s then you've come to the right place! 

We are U.K. based, and specialize mainly in 50s/60s Rhythm & Blues and Soul 45s. 

Many R&B/Soul 45s are often described by sub-genres, such as New Breed, Northern Soul, Popcorn, etc.... moreso when DJs on these various scenes popularise such 45s in their playlists. 

Other styles of music are also collected on these respective scenes, so you will find 45s listed on this site that may not necessarily be R&B or Soul as such...Rockin' Instrumentals, Latin and Jazz to name a few! 

Rather than having multiple sections listing all these various genres, we prefer to keep the site as basic as possible. Therefore, just a couple of general categories will be used, each one covering a few or more genres. 

Please feel free to PLAY soundclips that interest you....that's why they are there! 

All soundclips and label scans are taken from the actual 45 listed for sale, and are not modified or enhanced in any way. If any soundclips do not play, please let me know as soon as possible so I can resolve the problem.

The Strypes film shot by Julien Temple to be screened on BBC Four on Friday 13th March

In the run up to St. Patrick’s Day, BBC Four will air a number of special programmes on the subject of Irish landscape and music.

On Friday 13th March we get The Strypes – A Julien Temple film about the young Irish Band from Co Cavan. The blurb says, “The Strypes are bringing blistering R&B and Rock ’n’ Roll to a whole new generation. A deeply human story of four young childhood friends, with a profoundly shared passion and goal, together taking on the world. The ultimate real life coming of age movie as The Strypes become adults in the world of 21st century rock ’n’ roll success. The film is produced by Parallel Films and Elton John’s Rocket Pictures.”

The Jelly Roll Club's Rhythm and Soul Mini Allnighter is coming up fast. Get yourself to Peterborough on Saturday 14th March from 9pm til 4am. Admission is £6.

BBC Radio 6 Music - Don Letts, Crucial Vinyl: The Specials

Each week the Don selects a piece of Crucial Vinyl (he calls it his C.V.) from his collection, that has moved him and shaped his musical taste. He picks three tracks from it, and explains why it means so much to him. 

This week, it's the 1979 debut by the Specials. 

Don says, "The release of the Specials' self-titled debut album was key for the UK ska revival. This was music made by the people for the people, and, for a brief while, it was all about 2 Tone.  

Produced by Elvis Costello, and fuelled by the energy and attitude of punk, the band re-worked original 1960's Jamaican ska. Too Much Too Young was actually a version of an earlier hit called Birth Control, and there were also straight-up covers: Toots and the Maytals' Monkey Man and Dandy Livingstone's A Message To You Rudy. 

Interestingly, the themes of these old Jamaican records found receptive ears in the UK of the late 70s. Lyrically they dealt with things the youth could relate to: unemployment, teenage pregnancy and racism. Crucially, they were all delivered with tunes you could dance to - this was music for your mind and your feet."
