All Saints Mod Holiday, Lavarone, Italy - 28th to 31st October 2021
LAVARONE IS EVOLUTION, ADAPTATION & RESISTANCE! Good morning folks! Guten Morgen! Buongiorno a tutti! Despite the uncertain times we have entered into and the difficulties to organize and plan an event like All Saints for the time being, we want to be optimistic and held the 29th edition of our weekender trying to keep the style of Lavarone & its main features as much as possible by adapting to the situation and make the best of it. It will be slightly different, but half a loaf is better than none..
We have scheduled different activities including a trekking plus an aperitif on the lake, a traditional dinner in a mountain hut with DJs and mod ballroom on Friday, classic daytime gathering on Friday and Saturday with vintage and record market, live bands and Djs. On the Saturday night we will propose the All Saints Gala dinner, followed by Dj selections, musical vibrations, bacchanal and why not, shake, rattle and roll…. Hopefully we will be able to have our club on the Saturday, otherwise we will keep on dancing on a wooden dancefloor…
We will be monitoring the Covid-19 situation closely. In order to ensure the safety of all the participants, we will be following the applicable government guidelines. If these guidelines require us to do so, we will modify the programme and adapt to the situation.
In the setting up of this year’s programme, we want to continue to show the audience something familiar and keep our good old party feeling and atmosphere, but also showcase some people who have less popularity and less recognition and never played in Lavarone before. We think we have assembled a mouth-watering Dj line up that should provide an exciting soundtrack plus three very interesting bands.
Here follow some lines about the Djs Squad of the 29th All Saints & the bands.
FONSOUL BCN (Barcelona, Catalonia): coming all the way from Catalonia for the very first time in Lavarone, he will fire the dancefloor with a burning-hot box full of his latest discoveries, obscure tunes, rarities and monster tunes from his huge collection.
ALEXANDRE BESSON (Montpellier, France). Smart looking guy with a great taste in selecting music & choosing excellent wines, last time in Lavarone he had all the people dancing, this time he will in charge of inspiring and getting you in dancing mood with a banging selection of Freakbeat, Garage, French obscurities and groovy organ wild beat.
MICHELE COCO (Bologna, Italy): Mr Coco is one of the co-founders of the Bologna Calibro 7 Pollici, a club based in Bologna “the Learned” and has been collecting records for about 10 years, focused on 60s and early 70s hip music and. Expect to hear off him a mixture of hipshaking r&b, dirty boogaloo and groovy garage dancers.
MICHAEL WARGA (Graz, Austria) : Michael is a vinyl addict from the second biggest city in Austria, that is Graz, the European city of culture in 2003 and a very well-known face in the Austrian mod/60’s scene. He loves travelling, art, supporting his local football club, playing chess and go out to dinner and will be behind the decks in Lavarone for the very first time too. Expect a wild mix of punkadelic 60s sounds from the US mixed with fuzzy tunes from Europe and South America for your dancing pleasure!
LUIGI SLIM FIORE ( Vasto, ITALY ): Soul sound and R&B enthusiast, Slim has been & founder & co runner in many 50's 60's Club night around Europe (Dance with the Devil Roma, Chain Gang, Hook & Sling (London) , Tighten Up to name a few..) Always in the mood, always looking for the best sound, open minded traveller, Mod Jazz lover, he will also debut in Lavarone with his box of fireworks…
JACK ZORZI (Brighton/Munich, Italy). My friend Jack eats sugar lumps…He’s been travelling everywhere… Heard the sweet sounds of wheels in motion… say the Smoke and these words fit perfectly as brief description of Jack Zorzi‘s life. His record collection includes a variety of beat and psychedelia with a pinch of progressive freakbeat from the European countries he’s travelling to by his renowned van, spiced up with some rare gems from overseas.
ALESSANDRO DETASSIS (Gothenburg / Trento, Italy): Cofounder of the All Saints Mod Weekender, proud supporter of Trento Calcio Football club, Alessandro has been hanging around the Mod scene for more than 30 years. In Gothenburg, where he lives, he is involved in organization of Sinful mod weekend and runs a radio show on a local radio station. His musical taste is broad and covers all the spectrum of mod related sounds, from late 50’s R&B to late 60’s psychedelic sounds. He spins mainly beat, freakbeat, garage, Latin and black American R&B…
The bands
The Chauffeurs are an Italian trio that will play an exciting mix of Sixties R&B and Hammond Groove
Gli Ammutinati, an Italian combo that will offer a mix of Swing, Beat, rhythm and blues, skiffle & doo-wop.
Child of Panoptes, is an interesting band from France, influenced by late 60's and early 70's, Uk freakbeat, popsike, US garage & psych.

memories of Derby's 1960s dance halls
A new book is
set to dive into the golden era of dance venues in Derby
It was the
era when the "teenage revolution" really took off.
The dance
halls of the 1960s saw young people really begin to assert their own identity
rather than being clones of their parents, when high employment meant
disposable income – money to spend on enjoying themselves.
And that was
nowhere more so than in Derby.
Roger Smith
already has a hit to his name – “When The Stars Came To Town: Pop Package Tours
at Derby’s Gaumont Cinema 1959-1966”, his 96-page book packed full of
nostalgia-inducing photographs, recollections and memorabilia which chronicle
more than 40 shows that visited Derby’s largest cinema during that period.
Now Roger is
writing a new book: “We Danced In Derby: Dance Halls, Discos, Clubs and Pubs In
The 1960s.” And he is asking Derbyshire Live readers for their memories – and
photographs – of the town’s dance venues of that magical decade.
In Derby, the
old venues – the Assembly Rooms (before it burned down in 1963), the Trocadero,
the Albert Ballroom, the Churchill Hall – were still providing music for
dancing with their own resident bands. But in December 1959, just two weeks
before the start of the new decade, in the old Grand Theatre building in
Babington Lane, Mecca opened the Locarno ballroom.
It was a
revelation. Mecca used its own stable of bands and the occasional local group –
but it was the resident DJ, spinning 45-rpm vinyl, that was favoured by
dance-crazy young people, as what would become known as the Swinging Sixties
got under way.
Then, in the
mid-60s, the burgeoning Mod movement came to the fore and the exclusive band of
stylish kids with their love of soul music soon influenced the mass market.
This new culture directly gave birth to Derby’s Clouds club, and the club scene
began to flourish with new venues popping up around town.
Says Roger:
“I want people to take their minds back to those magical, some might say
innocent, virus-free days and share their thoughts with me. And if they can
help me with photos or memorabilia that would be a bonus.
“There will
be an ‘I Was There’ feature linked to each venue which will share the memories
of anyone who was a regular. You may have met your husband or wife on the dance
floor, experienced a drama there, won a dance competition or have a humorous
anecdote.
“Did you
Waltz, Bop, Jive, Twist, do the Locomotion or the Block? Tell me about your
favourite music, band or DJ. And what did you wear? You may have even worked or
performed at one of these iconic venues, whether it be a dance hall, club or
pub.”
To jog memories,
the venues – and, of course, there will be many more – that will be featured in
the book include the Locarno, Assembly Rooms, Trocadero, King's Hall, Albert
Ballroom, Victor Silvester Dance Studio, Corporation Hotel, Ritz Ballroom,
Rialto, Black Cat Club, Stork Club, Discovery Discotheque, Clouds, Shotgun
Discotheque, Magic of Ju Ju, Havana Club, Polish Club, Club Italia, Carib Club,
and the Sherwood Hotel.
Rogers says:
“The book will document a piece of social history – the dances people did, the
music they danced to, even the clothes they wore in those Derby dance venues of
a truly remarkable, exciting decade.”

Devon's devoted bike and scooter gangs through the decades are captured in this fascinating look back through the archives.
Thousands of riders and their machines are pictured from The Motorcycle Action Group, Bikers Make a Difference in Paignton, Torbay Mods scooter club, Plymouth Motorcycle Club, Exeter Yokels Scooter Club, Torquay Vintage Motorcycle Club, Bikers Association of North Devon, Plymouth Mega Ride and other one off events are included in a trawl that goes back to the 1960s.
Although Mod invasions started in the mid Sixties on the South Coast, the first time trouble reached Devon was 1970 when a skinhead group arrived by train to clash on Easter Sunday with Hells Angels.

Meanwhile, Detour Records have just released a picture disc 7" EP by The Threads featuring 'Hey Little Lady' b/w 'The Man With 1,000 Faces' and 'With Ourselves' - the single that was pressed on 7" & 12" in early 1987 for release on Prism Records but never saw the light of day.
The Threads have already returned to the rehearsal rooms and are currently working on a 16-song set that will cover the 'Mind The Threads, John!' 4-song demo tape, the Phase III EP, as well as selected tracks from 'As Yet Untitled' as well as the 'Step Back In Time' anthology CD, 'The Height of the Season' double 'live' album and the 'A Teenage Dream' triple rarities album.
