Purple Hearts - 'Extraordinary Sensations' Studio And Live 1979-1986, 3 x CD Box Set

 

• Featuring 76 tracks over 3 CDs, this box set contains both of mod band Purple Hearts’ two studio albums – the brilliant Chris Parry produced debut, ‘Beat That!’ (1980) and belated follow-up, ‘Pop-Ish Frenzy’ (1986).

• Including the A and B sides of all six of their singles.

• Plus six Jimmy Pursey produced demos recorded at Polydor in 1979 including energetic, early versions of singles ‘Millions Like Us’, ‘Frustration’ and ‘Jimmy’ and two Paul Weller produced demos, ‘Plane Crash and ‘Concrete Mixer’, recorded at Polydor in 1981 and intended for Weller’s Respond label but unissued.

• All officially licensed and taken from the master tapes for the first time ever.

• In addition, a fantastic 13 song, unreleased live set recorded at prestigious London club The Hippodrome in 1986 shows the band firing on all cylinders and features a scorching cover of The Creation’s Pop Art mod favourite ‘Painter Man’.

• Also included are four songs recorded live from the Mod Aid Alldayer held in Walthamstow, East London in 1985 plus two bonus tracks from the Purple Hearts reunion at Mods Mayday 99.
Guitarist and songwriter Simon Stebbing has been involved with providing and approving audio for this box set and has been newly interviewed for the booklet by MOJO magazine’s Lois Wilson. The booklet also contains a foreword by Purple Hearts fan Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield (Stone Roses / Primal Scream).

Small Fakers to play Lichfield Guild Hall on Saturday 4th November

 

The Small Fakers were officially launched on a chilly night in February 2007 at a central London shindig attended by fans and associates of the East End's very own fab four, the seminal, sensational Small Faces. The buzz in the audience that night was intense. Could the SMALL FAKERS even hope to come close to replicating the sound, and the look, of the Small Faces?

Cut to the end of the night and the band have ripped through twenty classic tracks, from Whatcha Gonna Do About It to Tin Soldier with effortless style and swagger, and the audience is almost delirious with excitement, and satisfaction. They have played the Isle of Wight festival four times since forming, and in 2008, the day after headlining the festival with his fellow Sex Pistols, bass player Glen Matlock joined The Fakers onstage to perform what many people regard at the Small Faces’ ultimate track, their 1966 number one ‘All Or Nothing’.

The band have also performed with original Small Face Jimmy Winston, who claimed the Fakers were 'much better live than the Small Faces were.' and original drummer Kenney Jones - who also played with Rod Stewart and The Faces and The Who - when he joined the band for a rendition of 'All or Nothing' at Hurtwood Park Polo Club in 2012. He also praised the Small Fakers as being 'Really great, absolutely spot on.' Children, siblings and parents of the original band members have declared themselves Fakers fans too, with Ronnie Lane's older brother Stan even claiming: 'For those who never saw The Small Faces live, The Fakers are as close as you're gonna get.'

Produced by Pat Dooner from 6 Music faves The Broken Orchestra and recorded at their industrial riverside studio in Hull.

Featuring members of soul-funksters Pearls Cab Ride - Lyn Acton on BVs with Simon Hart on bass. US-based Pat Missin is on harmonica - he designs blues harps for War's Lee Oskar and sells harp books around the world. James Wood is on keys, Frank Preston drums and recording artist Tom Kay on guitar. On percussion is Gary Hammond who has played and toured with Nina Simone and The Beautiful South.

This single marks a new verse in Andy Welsh's music career after The Scene played their farewell gig at the 100 Club in June 22.

For the first time in one set, the complete studio album recordings of The Pretty Things. Limited to 1,000 copies worldwide, encompassing the bands’ raucous self-titled 1965 debut, the conceptual Psychedelic brilliance of S.F. Sorrow and more reflective latter day output such as Bare As Bone, Bright As Blood, this deluxe 13 LP box set contains the entire Pretty Things studio output. All albums have been remastered for vinyl and feature replica original artwork. Each album comes with an individual, album specific 4-page insert with rare photographs and original single sleeves (with words from Mike Stax, Dick Taylor and Mark St. John). Reg King - Solo Album 3-CD Deluxe Box Set to be released on 23rd June

 

3CD Deluxe Edition of Reg King’s self-titled solo album from 1971 containing all his solo recordings. Featuring musicians from The Action / Mighty Baby and Blossom Toes / B.B. Blunder. Original copies of this cult classic album now fetch three figure sums.

Reg King was one of the UK’s greatest soul singers whose recordings with The Action made him a mod legend. This Deluxe Edition proves that Reg King wasn’t just a great singer but a great songwriter too.

Disc 1 includes a newly mastered version of the album itself that follows the original United Artists vinyl release track list, including the eight-minutes-plus version of ‘Savannah’ that has never been on CD before as well as reinstating the children talking at the end of ‘Gone Away’.

The album includes the Reg King and B.B. Blunder single ‘Little Boy’ previously recorded by Reg’s old group The Action. Also featured on Disc 1 is a planned but unreleased second single – an alternative version of album highlight ‘You Go Have Yourself A Good Time’, featuring B.B. Blunder backing Reg rather than Mighty Baby as on the album and the non album track ‘Nobody Knows Where We Are’.

Disc 2 includes earlier 1969 demos where Reg is backed by his former bandmates from The Action and bridging sound-wise The Action’s psychedelic ‘Rolled Gold’ era and Reg’s solo album.

Disc 3 features album demos and out-takes including early 1969 recordings of four album tracks featuring The Action and an out-take of ‘10,000 Miles’, where Reg is backed by Mighty Baby.

Sleeve notes by MOJO magazine’s Lois Wilson draw on new interviews with guitarist Brian Godding and drummer Roger Powell.

THE CIRCLES - (Runnin Around In) Circles (PICTURE DISC) 7"

Well here it is, the third and final Circles Picture Disc. This is the one that everyone wanted as it is the rarest release by this band. The reason for this is that it was recorded back in 1979 but was NEVER released until after the band had split in 1985 and the band didn't even know about its release until years later as Graduate Records just released it and used a B-Side that had previously been on the killer second single "Angry Voices".

So this time, we have re-released it with another track that was recorded at the same time BUT wasn't released until Detour released it on our "Private World" album back in 1999. The B-Side track "Let's Start Again" was one of the earliest tracks to be recorded along with 'Circles', it is not a particular favourite track by the band but thought we wanted to do something a little bit different than using a track had been used before.

Anyway, we hope you like what we have done and be a proud record in your collection!

Once again, only 300 copies pressed and will NOT be re-pressed in this format!
