We’re throwing a surprise Kentish seaside Christmas party!
We just couldn’t wait until May to get some new tunes off our chest, and to say thank you for your continued loyalty and enthusiasm.
We realise the Roundhouse has dug deep into your pockets, so we’ve made this one as affordable as we can.

The James Taylor Quartet - Annual Christmas Shows 2023
The James Taylor Quartet (or JTQ) are a British four-piece jazz funk band, who have become renowned for their live performances. They were formed in 1987 by Hammond organ player James Taylor following the break-up of his former band The Prisoners.
James Taylor Quartet’s first single, Blow-Up (a cover version of Herbie Hancock’s main theme from the seminal 1960s film of the same name), was released in 1987 and was championed by the NME and BBC Radio 1's John Peel, appearing in Peel’s Festive Fifty chart for 1987.
The band’s debut Mission Impossible (1987) followed and predominantly comprised covers of 1960s film themes such as Alfie, Mrs. Robinson and Goldfinger. Their second album,The Money Spyder (1987), was the soundtrack to an imaginary spy film, applying the band’s distinctive style to Taylor’s own compositions.
The band recorded their signature tune Theme From Starsky and Hutch featuring Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis of The JB's for their next album Wait A Minute (1988). Their popularity as a live act (selling out 11 shows at the Kentish Town Forum in 1990) led to the release of the live album Absolute – JTQ Live in 1991.
James Taylor is one of the finest Hammond organists in the world and JTQ have released 34 albums and 29 singles since their inception selling out huge venues and performing at major festivals worldwide.

The Prisoners Announce London Roundhouse Show
The Prisoners emerged in 1982 from the Medway Towns in Kent with their debut LP ‘A Taste of Pink’ on the band's Own Up label. 1983 saw the band sign to Ace Records ‘Big Beat’ subsidiary to release the follow up ’The Wisermiserdemelza’ which featured the single ‘Hurricane’. The following year’s ‘Electric Fit’ EP included the band’s signature song ‘Melanie’ and The Prisoners joined Thee Milkshakes, The Stingrays and the Tall Boys on Channel 4’s ’The Tube’ programme on a feature called ’Trash on the Tube’. Two more albums followed ’The Last Fourfathers’ (1985) and ‘In From The Cold’ (1986), the latter featuring the classic ‘Whenever I’m Gone’ single, before the band called it a day in 1986 after a UK tour supporting the Ramones.
10 years later The Prisoners reformed for a handful of live dates which saw the band sign to Steve Lamacq’s Deceptive record label alongside Elastica, Placebo & Earl Brutus. ’Shine On Me’ (1997) came out to enthusiastic reviews but The Prisoners split up again soon after. Bands such as The Charlatans & the Inspiral Carpets have cited The Prisoners as a formative influence on their own sound.
AGMP are thrilled to announce a one-off concert by The Prisoners at the Roundhouse in 2024. Joining them will be BBC Radio 6’s Steve Lamacq who will DJ and compere the night and VERY special guests will be announced soon.
Purple Hearts - 'Extraordinary Sensations' Studio And Live 1979-1986, 3 x CD Box Set
• Featuring 76 tracks over 3 CDs, this box set contains both of mod band Purple Hearts’ two studio albums – the brilliant Chris Parry produced debut, ‘Beat That!’ (1980) and belated follow-up, ‘Pop-Ish Frenzy’ (1986).
• Including the A and B sides of all six of their singles.
• Plus six Jimmy Pursey produced demos recorded at Polydor in 1979 including energetic, early versions of singles ‘Millions Like Us’, ‘Frustration’ and ‘Jimmy’ and two Paul Weller produced demos, ‘Plane Crash and ‘Concrete Mixer’, recorded at Polydor in 1981 and intended for Weller’s Respond label but unissued.
• All officially licensed and taken from the master tapes for the first time ever.
• In addition, a fantastic 13 song, unreleased live set recorded at prestigious London club The Hippodrome in 1986 shows the band firing on all cylinders and features a scorching cover of The Creation’s Pop Art mod favourite ‘Painter Man’.
• Also included are four songs recorded live from the Mod Aid Alldayer held in Walthamstow, East London in 1985 plus two bonus tracks from the Purple Hearts reunion at Mods Mayday 99.
Guitarist and songwriter Simon Stebbing has been involved with providing and approving audio for this box set and has been newly interviewed for the booklet by MOJO magazine’s Lois Wilson. The booklet also contains a foreword by Purple Hearts fan Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield (Stone Roses / Primal Scream).
