Mods Mayday 2013 Competition - Winner Announced

The Modernist Society Blog has been running a competition to win a pair of weekend tickets to the Mods Mayday 2013 event in Cambridge (for which we are one of the sponsors).

We asked you to email in with the answer to the following question: -

Q) Who did Back To Zero replace on the March of the Mods 1979 tour before it had even commenced?

Thank you for all of your responses and, although the majority of you got the answer we were looking for, we also got a handful of people saying Squire or The Scooters.

The answer we were looking for, of course, was the Little Roosters (and you can read more about this in Gary Bushell's excellent 'Time For Action' book, which is highly recommended).

Our competition winner is Chris Chester and the tickets will be posted out to him just as soon as they arrive at The Modernist Society Blog HQ from the promoter.

Small Fakers announce tour dates

If you've visited the Small Fakers website recently, you would have seen details of a gig featuring three of the ‘Bang On’ artists at The 100 Club in April. It's the very first 'Faces Story' show featuring music from the Small Faces, The Faces & Humble Pie, which they hope to be taking to the UK's theatres throughout 2013 and beyond!

This event will start early as there's a lot to get through! The first band up, the Small Fakers, will be on stage at 8pm and live music will be finished off by The Faces Experience at 11.30pm. The debut performance of Humble Lie will be in between the two. Each will play a separate show with DJ Dave Edwards spinning some cool tunes from 65-75 in between sets and until 1am. It's going to be a cracker of a night.

Another special gig coming up soon is the Small Fakers’ sixth birthday party at their ‘home’ venue, Jagz in Ascot. It’s always a great night when the Fakers play Jagz, and more often than not a sell-out. So don’t be tardy in getting your tickets. And feel free to take some poppers with you – party ones that is!

Ocean Colour Scene – new album preview gig 1st February

Stratford is getting an exclusive 'sneak preview' of Ocean Colour Scene's tenth album 'Painting' when lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist, Simon Fowler, returns to his home town to do a one off performance at The Chapel, No 1 Shakespeare Street, on Friday 1st February. 

Simon will perform solo acoustic tracks from the new album, produced by Matt Terry at Vada studios in Stratford, as well as old favourites ahead of OCS's already sell-out tour dates in the UK next month.

Nine Below Zero announce new show dates for 2013

Mod favourites, and Rhythm & Blues stalwarts, Nine Below Zero have announced a number of new shows for 2013 with the promise of more dates to follow. 

I hope to catch them in either Wolverhampton or Derby although, after Dennis Greaves follow-up band, The Truth, recently reformed their original line-up to play a couple of shows in London, I would dearly love to see The Truth play some Midlands dates too (and I suspect that I am not the only one). Furthermore, it would be great to see all of their pre-'Playground' recordings finally make it into the digital age on CD and/or iTunes as my vinyl is well and truly worn out. Now there's a big hint Dennis!!!
