At 7pm on Sunday 25th August 2013, Rock 'n' Roll Productions, in association with Big Screen - Brighton’s free beachfront cinema - are presenting, for ONE NIGHT ONLY, a very special preview performance of;

THE COOLEST MUSICAL EVER!!  'ALL OR NOTHING THE MOD MUSICAL', written by Carol Harrison, and featuring the life and music of the quintessential Mod band, the Small Faces.

Including the brilliant hits ’Whatcha Gonna Do About It’, ‘All or Nothing’, Tin Soldier’,'Lazy Sunday,’ and ‘Itchycoo Park'.

 

ALL OR NOTHING is the exciting, poignant, bittersweet tale of four charismatic young kids whose  humour ‘attitude’, passion, and above all, TALENT, rockets them into the ‘big time’; only to discover the path to fantastic success is heaving with exploitation, corruption, betrayal and ultimately tragedy.

The Small Faces story is the stuff of Rock 'n' Roll legend. Their rollercoaster journey in the music business is as vivid and colourful as their music. Their raw, soulful sound inspired a whole new generation of musicians, not to mention millions of fans.

Paul Weller announces 10-date UK Tour for October

Paul Weller has confirmed a 10-date UK tour for the month of October.

His website says that, "Paul personally had a hand in putting together the schedule, which features some of his favourite venues and includes towns he had not visited for a while."

Support on the first leg of the tour comes from Trembling Bells and Syd Arthur on the second.

Weller fans get the first chance to buy tickets when Fan Priority Booking begins tomorrow (Wednesday 12 June) at 9am.

1st Anniversary for The Modernist Society Blog - Thank You for Your Support

The Modernist Society Blog has now completed its first year on the web and I would like to thank you all for your continuing support.

In the 12-months since I started this blog there has been over 44,000 individual page views (almost 850 a week) which is amazing and shows the continued relevance and interest in our scene.

I will carry on posting the latest news, views and reviews from all around the Mod scene and hope you continue to find what I am doing a useful resource.

Australia’s Green Circles release new album on Off The Hip Records

GREEN CIRCLES "MR. COCKING'S DESCENT" CD (OTH 7124)

In a daring public exhibition in 1837, Mr Robert Cocking released his parachute and promptly launched himself into eternity. In 2013 the Green Circles launch their 4th album Mr Cocking's descent.

With this new release, the Green Circles invite you to climb into their basket and soar into the psych/garage/jangled sky.

These four dashing aerialists showcase their daring with guitars that have six and twelve strings, bass guitars with four, wailing organs, drums, a tambourine, a saxophone, and various sets of vocals cords. It's taken more than 80 days to launch, but they have landed eleven new tracks – nine originals and a couple of covers originally performed by band faves the Screaming Believers and the Ninth Wave.

From the riff and harmony laden ‘I can't see the day’ and ‘I'll give you thanks’ to the tough, overdriven ‘Time comes’ and ‘Semaphore Girl’, the dreamy Love tinged ‘Flown’ and the deep psych groove of ‘Watermelon sugar blues’, this Green Circles collection shows how far they have travelled since they first took off in Adelaide.
