Scooters out in force ahead of March of the Mods reports the Hartlepool Mail

A HUNDRED scooter enthusiasts revved up and rode out in Hartlepool at the weekend ahead of an event that has already raised thousands for young cancer sufferers.

Dozens of classic scooter owners from all over the region gathered at Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience car park on Saturday morning before riding to Seaton Carew.

It was all to promote this year’s annual March of the Mods event which will raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The impressive procession was led by a classic TVR classic sports car down Church Street and to The Staincliffe Hotel which will be the venue for the main event on Friday, March 27.

Kev McGuire, one of the organisers of March of the Mods, said: “All these great scooter clubs have been helping us since day one. “People met up with old friends and hopefully they will have met new people and made new contacts.

“It was awesome that they gave up their time on a weekend to come along and support the event.

This year’s March of the Mods promises to be another brilliant day with 11 bands and eight DJs taking over The Staincliffe.

Gary Shail, who played Spider in the 1979 cult Mod film Quadrophenia, will be one of the guest DJs and will sign fans’ memorabilia.

One room will be set aside this year for fans of Northern Soul music.

GOOD CAUSE: As well as reuniting old friends, the March of the Mods will raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. And there are some fantastic raffle prizes up for grabs, including a canvas of The Jam signed by all three members that Kev is giving up.

Another top prize is a Lambretta GP 200 that has already raised £6,000 in raffle ticket sales.

There are also signed photos of Madness lead singer Suggs, Ian Brown from The Stone Roses, Paul Weller and Stereophonics to win.

Other prizes include various items of clothing accessories donated by Mod and Ska retailers and other local businesses.

Kev added: “People have really been digging deep to support us so we have to say a big thanks to everyone.”

The event is being organised by Kev, Paul and Karen Altringham, Sharon Hudson and Steve Pounder.

Raffle tickets for The Jam canvas, priced £5 each or £20 for five, are available at www.runningonthespot.co.uk
