The
legendary American R&B and soul singer, Geno Washington, is to perform in
the West Country later this month.
Geno
Washington first came to England in the 1960s with the US Air Force and he soon
found himself jamming with local bands in East Anglia as a result of his love
of blues and soul music. Eventually he started performing in London and was a
sensation when performing with Georgie Fame and Zoot Money at the legendary
Flamingo Club in Soho.
He joined
the Ram Jam band in 1964 and soon went on to become its front man. The band
became popular with the Mod movement and in 1980 Dexys Midnight Runners
released a single ‘Geno’ as a tribute to Washington.
The Ram
Jam Band never went away and in the last 10 years have been performing
constantly to old and new fans.
Geno
Washington is a genuine full-on cult hero… a legend on the 60’s Soul scene. He
enjoys such status on the Soul, R&B and Northern Soul scenes, due to his
unsurpassable reputation as a live performer.
He'll play
at Exeter Corn Exchange on Friday 17 April.
