Paul Weller showcases new album 'Saturn's Pattern' during secret set at The Great Escape in Brighton yesterday afternoon

Paul Weller played a secret set at The Great Escape festival in Brighton yesterday afternoon (May 16), at the Old Market venue.

Weller, whose new album ‘Saturn’s Pattern’ comes out tomorrow (May 18), was not billed to play the festival but performed to a packed hall at 2.30pm, with a 45-minute set for the Amazon Front Row series including several songs from the new record.

Weller, joined by a five-piece band including two drummers, ran onto the stage to open ‘White Sky’, the lead ‘Saturn’s Pattern’ single, before playing songs from across his solo career.

Addressing the audience for the first time, the former Jam singer joked to one crowd member, “A little smile wouldn’t hurt”, before launching into ‘Into Tomorrow’ from his 1992 self-titled solo album. He later referred to ‘Saturn’s Pattern’ track ‘Going My Way’ as “probably the next single”.

The set-list was as follows: -

‘White Sky’

‘Long Time’

‘Floorboards’

‘Saturns Pattern’

‘I’m Where I should Be’

‘The Attic’

‘Into Tomorrow’

‘Above the Clouds’

‘Going My Way’

‘Peacock Suit’

‘Changingman’

‘These City Streets’

A film of the performance will be available on Amazon Prime Instant Video at an unspecified date.
