"It was
with great excitement I got this. A subject almost impossible to write about
due to the "broad church" nature of Mod.
First
off we get a brief history of men's fashion from the last couple of centuries
and then to half way through the 50's we get the first stirrings of something
that is going to influence so many people and events.
Trying
to fit everything in a book that doesn't end up being the size the
Encyclopaedia Mod-annica is the difficulty here and is achieved with many
interviews with people who were there right from the beginning.
The
photos, flyers, posters and adverts are staggering. All bases are covered perfectly
after all the devil is in the details.
I
particularly liked hearing about Guy Stevens and Pete Meaden, two people
definitely worthy of a book themselves. Hearing from some of the many Blues and
Soul artists from the States is great as it must have been like landing on a
different planet at the time.
I would
give it 6 stars if I could as there's a picture of the proper original The Who
at the Marquee poster when so many publications have used the Live At Leeds LP
reproduction, it's all in the details.
A
fantastic book for anyone interested the Mod way of life."
Really looking forward to this one. In my opinion not a decent book has been published about mods since Richard Barnes bible, but this seems to have the potentiao of being really good.
