Belfast rockers The Vals honoured to tour with legend Paul Weller reports the Belfast Telegraph

A Belfast band is gearing up for its biggest support slot to date after being invited to join Modfather Paul Weller on his upcoming European tour.

The Vals five-piece rock group will join the legendary musician as his special guests when he takes to the road in April, playing a total of nine shows with him across France, Holland, Belgium and Germany.

Lead singer Paul Doherty, who's been a fan of Weller's since his early days with The Jam, said he couldn't believe it when the band's German manager Stefan Duerr announced that they'd landed the support gigs in Europe, kicking off with a Paris show on April 8.

Paul, who formed The Vals in 2005, said he had no idea that the band's record company, the Dusseldorf-based Unique Records, had requested a support slot with the 56-year-old rocker until news came through that they'd be joining him on tour.

The Vals frontman said: "It's a huge honour for a band from Belfast to be asked to support a legend like Paul Weller on tour, and for us especially as we'd all be big fans.

"We've played a lot of great festivals and supported Ocean Colour Scene too, but to play with Weller is pretty cool. We just can't wait to get on the road with him."
