“Brighton's revving up for a new Mod invasion” says The Argus in a truly cringe-worthy and condescending editorial

Rockers beware – the Mods are set to invade Brighton beach for the first time in nearly 50 years.

Hundreds are expected to rev up their Vespas and dust off their desert boots for the reunion on Sunday evening.

But this time the sharp-suited hordes will be out for a singalong rather than a scrap.

For one night only, the Sixties trendsetters will be able to watch a live preview of an upcoming mod-themed musical called All or Nothing.

Stars including Football Factory actor Danny Dyer and EastEnders bad boy John Altman will appear on stage in a mini-performance of the show, set to tour the country in spring next year.

Produced and written by EastEnders star Carol Harrison, the musical features the life and music of the Small Faces, the quintessential mod band.

Carol said she was expecting hundreds of mods to turn up to watch, and perhaps even a few brave rockers.

She said: “I love the whole mod movement – the style, the dress, the music. It’s about being working class kids with a sense of style.

“This story of the mods hasn’t been told in a musical, so I thought it should be. But the show’s not about jazz hands and joyful people bursting into song.

“It’s much more gritty and real than that.”

The performance will take place at 7pm on Sunday in front of Brighton’s Big Screen, next to the Palace Pier.

Afterwards the giant screen will show the film Quadrophenia, which tells the story of the clashes between mods and rockers on Brighton beach in the early Sixties.

Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones will also be making an appearance.

Carol said: “Brighton is a central part of the whole mod story, and that’s why we’re previewing the show here.

“We’ll be literally yards from where it all kicked off all those years ago.”
