Paul
Weller will play a massive open-air show in Cardiff this summer
The Jam
and Style Council star who has forged a hugely successful solo career will
bring live music back to Cardiff Castle when he plays the historic venue in
July.
The
Modfather will join such rock ‘n’ roll legends as Tom, Jones, Stereophonics,
Sting, 10CC, Status Quo and Queen who have all played headline shows at the
heritage site.
The last
concert held at the castle was in 2009 when Stereophonics – the only band to
have headlined the venue twice – played a homecoming show, more than decade
after their first gig there in 1998.
For Paul
Weller, a songwriter who has influenced generations of musicians such as Noel
Gallagher and Kelly Jones, it will be a welcome return to a city he knows well
after playing many headline shows at the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena and a
memorable outdoor appearance in 1997 topping the bill at The Big Noise Festival
in Cardiff Bay.
The
Cardiff Castle concert will be staged by Orchard, Wales’ largest independent
music promoter.
Orchard
director Pablo Janczur said: “Paul Weller is one of the biggest names in
British music over the past 35 years, and we are really excited to bring him to
this great Cardiff Castle location that has hosted some major concerts over the
years
“It’ll
be a big night in the middle of the summer.”
Fans of
the sharp-dressed 55-year-old will be treated to songs from his extensive back
catalogue at the show which will also include several support acts to be
announced over the next few months.
There
are not many British musicians who left such a sizeable cultural imprint as the
Woking-born song-smith.
Tickets

at 9am from City Centre Ticketline on 029 2023 0130 or via www.cardiffcastle.ticketsolve.com
