"The Specials’ lead guitarist, Roddy 'Radiation' Byers, quits the band" reports the Coventry Telegraph


One of the original members of The Specials has left the band.

Roddy 'Radiation' Byers, lead guitarist and singer/songwriter for the band has called it a day to concentrate on his outfit The Skabilly Rebels and his own solo projects.

A statement given exclusively to the Coventry Telegraph read: "Roddy 'Radiation' Byers has left the band too concentrate on his solo career.”

"He will be appearing as a special guest on Dave Wakelings’ 'The English Beat' UK tour in March."

The Specials are scheduled to play The Isle Of Wight Festival this summer.

Frontman Neville Staple left last year, leaving original members Terry Hall, Horace Panter, John Bradbury and Lynval Golding to continue the Coventry band’s legacy.
