“Jam guitarist Bruce Foxton hints Paul Weller stage reunion is not all a mod con” says the London Evening Standard

Bruce Foxton today raised the possibility of sharing a stage once again with former bandmate Paul Weller more than 31 years after the acrimonious break-up of The Jam.

Bassist Foxton — currently on a UK tour with his band From The Jam — and Weller did not speak to each other for many years and pursued separate careers.

But having put aside their differences, they are now friends again — with Foxton contributing to Weller’s ‘Wake Up The Nation’, and the pair performing together at the Royal Albert Hall two years ago.

Foxton, 58, who lives in Surrey where the band started out in the Seventies, said a whole tour together would be unlikely, but he hopes they might reunite again on stage or in the studio.

Songwriter Weller, 55, has repeatedly said he will never reform The Jam with Foxton and drummer Rick Buckler.

Foxton said: “The very best fans could hope for is maybe play on each other’s albums in the future or do a show together, but that’s only maybe. That’s what I would like I think we may do in the future.

“Five years ago I never thought I would appear on stage at the Royal Albert Hall [with Weller] again but something like that might come up again.”

Foxton is performing at the Clapham Grand on November 1 as part of the All Mod Cons Tour, to mark the 35th anniversary of album The Jam. He said he was pleased to be attracting younger fans as well as those who were alive in their heyday, and the shows get “better and better”.

He added that he could not imagine ever giving up touring: “I’m not really ancient but I’m not a spring chicken. As long as I can and I want to do it, there’s lots of gigs being booked in next year. I just love it so much, I can’t think of a better occupation to have.

“I’m privileged to write songs that have touched a lot of people, there’s been a lot of demand for them and as long as there’s demand for it I will continue.”
