Ali MacKenzie of The Birds to play The Talk in Norwich on Sunday

Ronnie Wood’s former bandmate playing in Norwich on Sunday. The lead singer of Ronnie Wood’s first band is bringing his new outfit to play The Talk in Oak Street, Norwich on Sunday.

Ali MacKenzie was the frontman and, along with Ronnie, a founder member of The Birds in the 1960s.

Called The Band of 1000 Dances, his current five-piece aims to recreate the sound, energy and sweaty excitement of the early days of classic British ‘60s blues and RnB groups.

Ali said: “Me and Ronnie grew up together. We formed our first band together with another couple of mates who lived around the corner. Originally called The Thunderbirds, we shortened the name to The Birds.”

Commercial success proved elusive for The Birds and they split up in 1967. Guitarist Ronnie Wood went on to play with The Jeff Beck Group, Rod Stewart and The Faces and The Rolling Stones.

Doors open 7.30pm. Tickets are £14 on the door, or £10 in advance from 07585 907236.
