“Mods make musical pilgrimage to Eel Pie, Twickenham” says the Richmond & Twickenham Times

A mob of Mod music fans travelled to Twickenham in style this month to learn about its musical history.

Members from the Bar Italia Scooter Club came from Soho to the Stables Gallery at Orleans House to view the Birth of Rhythm and Blues exhibition.

The exhibition, which runs to September 29, celebrates the musical history of Eel Pie and the greats who played at the club, including the Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart.

The scooter club’s president Nick Robins said the group wanted to appreciate and discover more about post-war British music.

He said: “The concept of visiting is really to appreciate and discover more about the vast history of post war British music.

“While Eel Pie Island was not a Mod destination in itself, it definitely played host to a number of influential bands, some of whom did find resonance with the Mod scene in the 60s.”
