Retro treasure house opens reports Jess Pullar in the Nelson Mail

A new vintage store in Haven Rd is bringing the funk from previous decades to Nelson, with clothing, furniture and other treasures on offer.

The store, Mod & Kitsch, was previously an art studio and is the brainchild of Nelson creatives Julie Wilson and Jim Glover.

Wilson, an artist, has painted murals in Nelson, including telecommunications boxes in Victory. She will sell her artwork in the shop, along with other collectable retro items she has found.

Glover, a talented furniture maker, has created a range of retro-styled furniture to sell, including tables, chairs and wooden shelves all with a 60s edge.

Wilson said a few stores had emerged in the last few years that catered to vintage buyers but her sought-after collectibles would give Mod & Kitsch a point of difference.

"What we are doing is different and unique, bespoke in a way and not mass producing," said Wilson.
