Paul
Weller has joined the line-up for a special tribute concert being arranged in
memory of The Artwoods Hammond-man Jon Lord, who died in 2012.
‘Celebrating
Jon Lord’ takes place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on April 4th and, as
well as Weller, has also invited Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan, Ian Paice, Roger
Glover, Don Airey and Steve Morse, while Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson
and various luminaries from the world of Seventies British rock – of which Lord
was such an influential figure with Deep Purple – will also perform. Bob Harris
is to act as compere for the concert.
Jon Lord
passed away at the age of 71 in July 2012 after suffering with pancreatic
cancer. He was a part of The Artwoods and the original Deep Purple line-up
which formed in 1968, and co-wrote much of their material, including the
classic 1972 single ‘Smoke On The Water‘ and the unmistakable organ riff which
underpins ‘Child In Time‘.
The Artwoods anthology double CD is due to be released by RPM in February.
