Fantastic
Leeds band, The Ace, are back with a new double A-sided single, ‘Egil’s
Head-Ransom’ c/w ‘I’m Leavin’ You’. And once again these northern beat
merchants display their fine combination of song-writing skills, musicianship
and great vocals/harmonies.
‘Egil’s
Head Ransom’ commences with some jangly guitar playing before launching into its
full beat-filled majesty. Shorty, snappy and fun-packed, there is an energy
about this song that somehow reminds me of 80s Countdown band, The Kick. In
fact, if you could roll The Kick’s cover of ‘I Can’t Let You Go’ in to one song
with their own ‘Armchair Politician’, then this beauty may well be the outcome.
Then
comes the mighty ‘I’m Leavin’ You’, which contains the spirit of The Yardbirds
from their ‘For Your Love’ period, with the drive of The Eyes, along with a
fuzzed guitar, to take you from the beat start of the 60s of the former track,
to the more garage second half of the decade for this song. This will soon have
you singing along. Awesome.
So there
you have it, another major triumph from The Ace. Hang on though, no you don’t
have it – yet. But if you do want it (and why wouldn’t you?), get yourself
along to www.wedigthistheace.blogspot.co.uk
where you will be told how to treat yourself to 2 slabs of mighty Leeds
beat!!!!!!!
